A mentor is a role model.
-
A mentor is a person who is successful in the industry and has been successful in
completing American College designation studies.
-
A mentor is a person who builds professionalism in the industry by encouraging
qualified candidates to complete their designation.
-
A mentor is a person who provides guidance and advice on what it takes to be a
"professional" and what it takes to set goals and succeed in meeting those
goals.
-
A mentor is a person who shares with others and gives back to the industry.
Mentorship is a written agreement between mentor and student under which the student
promises to earn a specified designation and the mentor promises to assist and support
him or her throughout that endeavor.
The Mentorship program is a way for American College graduates to repay the industry by
meeting the pledge made at conferment.
"Do everything possible to build your profession by encouraging qualified
persons to pursue professional studies, by personally sponsoring new students, and by
offering assistance and encouragement until they reach their goals."

Why have a Mentorship Program?
Statistics on the Mentorship program show that there is a 71%
active student rate as opposed to a 32% active student rate for students not
being mentored. Simply stated, this means that students being mentored complete their
designations at a higher rate than students not being mentored.
Mentorship is undertaken on either a formal or informal basis. While a great many
designees have been instrumental in encouraging others to begin and to continue their
study, it is only formally recorded mentorship which is recognized through participation
in the Huebner Personal Mentorship Program. To be recorded, the Mentorship Registration
Form must be completed and signed by both the mentor and the student, and then returned to
the College.
Many students find a mentor within their own company or associates. To encourage
participation in the program, however, each new student is offered help in finding a
mentor. It is our Chapter's responsibility to match mentors and students.
After we match the student with a mentor, they both must sign the Mentorship
Registration Card and return it to the Mentorship Department of the American College. Only
upon receipt of the completed card can we officially record the mentorship agreement and
begin providing the mentor with the pertinent information about the students
progress.
